It seems I may be one of the few people in the UK who thinks
Gordon Brown's performance was a perfectly creditable piece of public speaking. I guess my ability to detect mental illness through hand gestures just isn't up to the standards of the rest of the population - I must be in the wrong job.
No, I think you may be the ONLY person in the UK!
ReplyDeleteI really do belief it is possible to draw some conclusions about the Brown psyche.
Watch it again. In particular, watch the cringe-making inappropriate affect
John
What an awful performance.
ReplyDeleteHe should have consulted whoever coached Margaret "Greed is Good" Thatcher.
Yeah, there is inappropriate affect, but that doesn't count as a psychological insight when the person is public speaking. Half of those gestures are straight out of the Blair book.
ReplyDeleteEveryone I've heard who's met Brown personally says he's perfectly nice and normal but not a great public speaker - hell, I'm not a great public speaker either - and I'd be distinctly unimpressed if people, especially those who should know better, tried to infer psychological flaws on the basis of that.
