They urgently need to speak to a mathematician about their deployment of PCA. I can barely grasp the ineptitude of their use of statistics.

Appalling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285737581949527996.post-73219887621724796022007-11-10T22:27:00.000+00:002007-11-10T22:27:00.000+00:00Thanks for pointing out the shortcomings in this p...Thanks for pointing out the shortcomings in this paper. However, in answer to dark sociologist, there is an evolutionary riddle to be solved in terms of human reproductive behaviour, since ovulation and hence female fertility is visible in other primate species, but "concealed" in humans. As is sex itself, which apparently is all out in the open in other primates. Strange as it may seem, this puts concealed ovulation and sexual behaviour right up there with tool use, bipedalism and symbolic language on the list of unique human traits. It is reasonable to assume the un-sexy unique traits were important in the success of Homo sapiens, so sexual behaviour is just begging for an adaptationist explanation. I guess lots of researchers in this field give in to the temptation to graft their favourite narrative onto whatever data they have no matter how flawed the actual experiments are.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285737581949527996.post-20175273674231620532007-11-10T21:07:00.000+00:002007-11-10T21:07:00.000+00:00Like someone very quotable once said, "if you tort...Like someone very quotable once said, "if you torture the data long enough, they'll confess to anything".
(Darrell Huff?)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285737581949527996.post-37070405871367384382007-11-10T02:57:00.000+00:002007-11-10T02:57:00.000+00:00Science, at its very comedic best!Science, at its very comedic best!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285737581949527996.post-84011525028197885142007-11-09T23:33:00.000+00:002007-11-09T23:33:00.000+00:00I must say that I was depressed a little earlier t...I must say that I was depressed a little earlier today, but you have restored my faith in humanity. I am glad to see that someone on this earth still has critical reasoning skills.

BTW, I don't understand where these guys come up with these "evolutionary psychology" theories. If women try to hide their fertility from a distance to prevent a sexual attack, would the converse be true that when they aren't fertile that they want a sexual attack? Maybe they didn't get that far yet...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285737581949527996.post-39938066146664453352007-11-09T17:49:00.000+00:002007-11-09T17:49:00.000+00:00there is nothing i like better than reading someon...there is nothing i like better than reading someone who is even more anal than i am. very good work indeed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
